TWO TOUCHES PROGRAM RIO DE JANEIRO

Promote the complete development of children and teenagers via sports activities, reading and writing, informatics and support to alliteration in extra-curricular shifts. In 2015 the Two Touches Program, of Fundação Gol de Letra, rendered assistance to more than 300 citizens of Caju, in the port zone of Rio de Janeiro, including young monitors and adults of the community.

As of 2001 the Project has contributed to the integral education of its participants, the improvement of family links, the involvement of the public schools and the strengthening of the community. The framework includes workshops regarding court sports, radical sports, alliteration, school strengthening, games and play sections, community library and gymnastics for adults.

Another fundamental action of the program refers to monitors´ education.

Twelve young persons of the community receive theoretical and practical education in order to act as multipliers of knowledge and attitudes, being either educators in the program´s workshops or young protagonists in community situations.

There are reasons to celebrate: more families are integrated to the program, actively participating with the social teams in its events, more interest is shown from the part of the families in relation to the teenagers, and there is a significant participation of fathers or guardians in the children´s education.

The estimate done in the first semester of 2015 resulted in a Project change. The slackline workshop was replaced by capoeira, as largely requested by the public. Capoeira and skate represent challenges in terms of sports outside the courts. The construction of Ginásio Poliesportivo Sócrates Brasileiro in 2015 was a major action. The new gymnasium represented a larger variety of sports practiced by the local children, teenagers and young people.

Besides the Integration Games and the Tournament of Modalities, events such as cultural performances, Readers´ Club, Carnival Balls, Literature and Country Parties, Strolls, complete the game and sports activities.

Just between father and children

Antônio Lopes Fernandes, father of João Victor, of Ane Victoria and Isabela, recognizes the importance of the Two Touches Program. “We do not have other opportunities in the district” he claims. “Everything is welcome by the children, not only the court sports but also the classroom studies. My children love to be here, they look forward to the classes and I am very happy to have this place for them. It means a lot, not only for me, but for the whole community. I hope that this project has a continuation...”.  João Victor Brito Fernandes, 9 years old, confirms: “I adore coming to Fundação, because I practise several sports here, besides football. When I am not in the court I am in the classroom, reading, painting and having informatics lessons, I like everything very much. The event I liked most was the tournament of modalities, team work gets people closer to learn more things”.

“I like playing futsal, I also like the activities in the sports court, and the literacy classes. I enjoy the theatre and story-telling sections.  I always take part in every activity. Before joining Gol de Letra I used to stay at home, doing nothing, and now I have the opportunity to do lots of different things”.

Mirlene Nascimento de Souza, 13 years of age.

“It was the school´s first participation in the event, I like the way it was organized! The games propitiated the integration among the schools in Caju District, there was a lot of action and enthusiasm. In played “queimado”, futsal (masculine and feminine teams), athletics activities and table tennis. I am grateful for the opportunity.
