COMMUNITIES PROGRAM SÃO PAULO

The development of activities in Vila Albertina, in São Paulo City´s northern zone, favours the Community´s development, the prominence of the local inhabitants and the consolidation of a culture based on peace and conviviality. Everything takes place via the following projects: Surroundings, Sexuality in Action, and Education of Social Agents (axels of performance of Communities Programme in São Paulo).

The Project entitled “Education of Social Agents” prepared some community women to work as Multipliers of knowledge and practices concerning themes related to rights assurance, feminine empowerment, strengthening of ties, democratic processes, health care, sexual and reproduction rights, among others.

The highlight in 2015 was conquered by the group of Social Agents, which started to act together with the team of the sports programme entitled Jogo Aberto (Open Game), helping the planning and execution of open activities dedicated to the Community.

Being familiar to the characteristics, problems, and potentialities of the surrounding reality, establishing a critical view about the daily activities and the social/cultural context of the community, promoting the democratic culture and the conflict mediation, proposing direct intervention actions that lead to social change; all these actions are part for the educational process of the Social Agents.

Focused on the community´s development, the Project entitled “Surroundings” articulates actions with local partners, offering services and information to the Community. Among them we find the partnership with the CIEE (Company and School Integrated Centre), with which Fundação Gol de Letra develops a programme of literacy of adults and young people (EJA) in the community. There were 20 students.

Another initiative to promote reading habits took place on the National Book Day, the 29th of October.

Gol de Letra developed activities to students of the Municipal Fundamental School (EMEF Izac Silvério).

Three hundred and eighty kits of infantile and juvenile books were distributed to the students, and one hundred and eighty books were given to the teachers and school teams. This activity was done in partnership with the Northern Zone Social Network, which also organized the distribution of books in the underground stations of the region.

The project entitled “Sexuality in Action” discusses the sexual and reproduction rights, sexual and reproduction health, gender equality and diversity. It propitiates to the adolescents and young people the opportunity to discuss these issues based on experiences, dynamic activities, games, bringing up important concepts, such as gender, STD prevention, rights assurance, among others.

“Being a social agent is something very important. I learned how to reflect about my life, thinking about going beyond my expectations. The bridge has always two sides, we can go in any direction, by studying, planning, pursuing our goals, and knowing that nobody can stop us, only ourselves. More important than dreaming is the conquest, to surpass the limits of what was considered impossible.”

Deyse Gonçalves, 30 years of age, Social Agent.

“It was very rewarding and exciting to take part in the Social Agents´ Educational Project. The adopted participative methodology created an activity based on trust, exchange and debate. During the course period we noted that the social agents reported their own experiences concerning the studied subjects, besides doing links to other themes previously discussed. In fact, they became more critically aware of the issues, developing criticism and questioning attitudes. This change of behaviour and attitude can be noted in the presentation of the Intervention Project. They were engaged in the co-creation process and were very proud of the results. We were positively surprised by it, as the project led to an internal and deep change in each social agent, which finalized the educational period with a more active and independent behaviour, they were ready to be Multipliers.”

Cynthia Krahenbul, Educator - Organização Associação Bê-a-bá do Cidadão (ABC of Citizens Association)

“The workshop on sexuality issues helped me to see the importance of noticing that, the more we know, the more we have doubts. We analysed interesting subjects such as diversity and prejudice, which, unfortunately are part of our day-by-day, present in the smallest things that we discuss and do. With that, I learned how to pay attention to what is around me.

Vanessa Rodrigues Araujo, 19 years of age, Young Monitor

I started my studies very recently, but I have already learned a lot here. I am reading, writing and speaking better. I had no interest in anything, now I don´t spend my time in front of the TV anymore. My teacher, Alessandra, is very nice, she helps us and she is also very patient. The students feel at ease with her and want to come to school, as we learn something new every day. She teaches in a playful way, the school hours simply fly! Maths classes are not a headache, they are cool! I have already missed many job opportunities because I did not know how to read and write properly, now I know that we need to study.
