Communities Program RJ

About

The Communities Program – RJ is responsible for the development of actions focused on families and citizens of Caju District, in Rio de Janeiro´s seaport area. It is a transversal project, interlinked to another Gol de Letra´s project in the region. Along the year the institution counted on more than 70 partners, among representatives of private initiative, public agencies, institutions, local players and other agents that were fundamental to the activities´ success.

One of the objectives – and its main challenge – was the reduction and prevention concerning risk situations in the social and individual levels. In 2016 a closer look has shown the increase of the regional social vulnerability, labor issues involving children and teenagers, school drop-out, and domestic violence. In order to change this scenario, it was necessary to establish more specific and stronger guidelines. On the other hand, the family´s participation in the meetings increased satisfactorily.

Other targets like the increase of skills and potentialities regarding the social actions; the enhancement of social and collective self-esteem; a greater autonomy based on the acknowledgement of social rights; expansion of the individual and community articulation to defend the common interest; contribution to youth education to increase the number of job opportunities; decrease of the rate of rights´ violation, aggression and abuse situations and the improvement of community relationships, were either partially or totally fulfilled.

Several partnerships contributed to the elaboration and performance of different activities in 2016. There were two educational actions in partnership with Caju´s Rede Intersetorial (inter-sectorial network), in which 35 persons participated in workshops concerning Human Rights, sponsored by Cedaps (Health Care Promotional Center).

There were also four Community mobilization events focused on Citizenship: Gol de Cidadania - Esporte, Direito e Movimento, in Caju (with the participation of 286 persons); and Gol de Cidadania - Acesse seus Direitos, na Barreira do Vasco (with the participation of 250 persons).

Gol de Letra used its facilities along the year in several activities which promoted the citizenship. Local partners, institutions, inhabitants and professionals of the district used the facilities of the Foundation 32 times in 2016, involving 850 citizens in the actions. The network to facilitate the access of the local population to work opportunities was maintained. As there is not a center of job opportunities in the territory, the Foundation promoted five professional selection-prospecting processes, and 55 persons were either directly or indirectly benefited by them.

“The interaction with other children propitiated by sports practice also includes the Mothers and other relatives. We get together to talk, discuss sports and give our opinions. It is all very good. We, as part of the community, like the facilities, the opportunities given to our children, which we did not have in our childhood.”
