Open Game Program CAJU RJ

About

The children, adolescents and young people from 8 to 17 years of age, living in Caju District, in Rio de Janeiro´s seaport area, have access to several sports practices based on educational sports, thus experiencing an integral development. Workshops of judo, table tennis and sports rhythmic gymnastics were offered to 280 participants.

The activities contribute not only to sports modalities, but also to the generation of social protection contexts, via the proposal of educational actions to promote the social, cultural and political development of the children, young people and their family members. Based on it the program has rendered 1,497 social assistance services to the local families.

Due to the Olympic and Paralympic Games in the City the routine of Fundação Gol de Letra was lively changed with the addition of interexchange, tours and external activities in the program.

The Project´s strategy to strengthen the local sports and leisure culture included some actions such as Sports Hiking, Sports Festivals (judo, futsal, table tennis and rhythmic gymnastics) and Jogo Aberto Football for Hope Festival. A total of 337 children, adolescents and young people took part in this Project together with their families and the Community members.

There were participations in other activities, such as Judo Rio Championship, Sesc Ramos R  Gymnastics and Dance Festival; a performance of rhythmic gymnastics in Ação Global - Caju,  a futsal external activity and a tour in Praia Vermelha. The program kept the partnership with Escola Municipal Professor Walter Carlos de Magalhães Fraenkel, in the table tennis modality.

Jogo Aberto Football for Hope

From 2016 onwards the futsal players in Jogo Aberto Caju Program form the teams that take part in Football for Hope Project, together with São Paulo´s team.

In November, Petropolis, a town in the mountain region of Rio de Janeiro, hosted the third edition of Jogo Aberto Football for Hope Festival, a project which counted on FIFA´s support. A group of 60 young people of the two units took part in this event, which promotes the exchange of knowledge, experience and culture focused on peace and based on the several forms of playing football. The year´s chosen theme was “Football in 3 Turns”, a modality where the players negotiate and define their own rules and play without the presence of a referee.

Statements

“I like futsal; Jogo Aberto Project gave me the opportunity to improve my knowledge regarding something I like to do. I am welcome by everyone in Fundação, mainly by the teachers, who are fine persons. In my opinion sports means culture, arts and leisure.”

Hildson Cristian Miranda dos Santos, 15 years old. Joined  Gol de Letra in 2015

“I feel that this initiative with my children is a very interesting one, as besides the social aspect, sports practicing is a very healthy activity. I like Fundação Gol de Letra very much! The children want to wake up early just to go to Gol de Letra, that is very important in terms of discipline, as well as in sports. It is a wonderful thing for Caju´s children”.

Denise Santos, responsible for Renan Santos and Layra Eduarda

“Taking part in the Jodo Festival was a very rewarding experience, as it was my first time as a monitor in an event; I found it different! I had my learning and my improvement in sports, both personally and professionally”.
